The Iec870Lib Library, IEC 60870-5-101 and IEC 60870-5-104 Communication

The Iec870Lib library is used for communication between Tecomat devices and upper-level systems utilizing the IEC 60870-5-101 (serial communication) and IEC 60870-5-104 (TCP/IP communication) standards. In this communication, the Tecomat PLC acts as a slave station (slave/server).

    • Foxtrot 1 (CP-1xxx), TC700 (CP-7004, CP-7007)
    • Foxtrot 2 (CP-2xxx), TC800 (CP-8xxx)
  •     Unsupported devices: TC650, CP-7002, CP-7003, CP-7005

  • fbIec_60870_5_101_s – Communication via a serial link according to IEC 60870-5-101
  • fbIec_60870_5_104_s – Communication via TCP/IP according to IEC 60870-5-104

Main features

  • Supports spontaneous and cyclic data transmission
  • Automatic processing of commands such as general inquiry, time synchronization, and property reading
  • Receives commands from the control center and forwards them to the application
  • Ability to store data in a buffer in the event of a connection failure (timestamped objects)

Verification and Testing

Communication using the Iec870Lib library was successfully tested at the ČEZ Distribution test laboratory.
The test was conducted on ports 2404 and 2405 (IEC 60870-5-104 protocol) and included:
state and measured value transmission,
reception and processing of control commands,
power control simulation (0%, 30%, 60%, 100%),
testing the RTU response in a de-energized state.
The test was validated for the Foxtrot 2 CP-2xxx and TC800 CP-8xxx units. The testing scenario was based on the “EXAMPLE-CEZ_DRS_V1.0” configuration and used the IEC104sLib v3.2 library (the successor to Iec870Lib).

Requirements and Limitations

  • Requires the installation of the following application profiles:
    • TXF 689 01 for IEC 60870-5-104
    • TXF 689 28 for IEC 60870-5-101
  • Without these profiles, communication will only function for 4 hours for testing purposes. Available starting with firmware version:
    • v5.8 for Foxtrot 1 / TC700
    • all versions for Foxtrot 2 / TC800
