Recently, the DALI standard - a bus specialized for the control of addressable electronic ballasts - was updated and the DALI2 designation began to be used for it. In principle, this is an innovation of the protocol, respectively. its addition of new commands. These take into account needs that the previous definition did not take into account. 3 channels (RGB) are needed for color control, two (cold / warm white) for chromaticity temperature control, where originally each component required a separate address, which in turn reduced the number of ballasts that could be connected to one DALI line. Therefore, multi-channel ballasts with one DALI address have appeared on the market. These are called Type 8.

The specification of the physical layer of this bus does not change, so DALI2 in Foxtrot also works with the existing converters from CIB to DALI: C-DL-0064M and  C-DL-0012S and the innovation takes place only in the SW part.

The upgraded library is called DALI-LibPlus, it contains some redesigned and two new blocks for multichannel ballasts with one DALI address type 8, which are called fb_DL_QueryColorTemperature for reading parameters from the ballast and fb_DL_SetColorTemperature, where in addition to light intensity the temperature can now be set. To be sure, we have tested the function with Helvar ballasts. Other types of ballasts, eg RGB, will be added gradually.
