Some light sources, equipped with a simple 230 V source (driver) are equipped with LED diodes in a connection suitable for direct dimming - ie instead of the source, which is part of the luminaire, LED diodes (the luminaire's own LED circuits) can be connected directly to a suitable dimmer.

E.g. The HLP59545WW LED panel is equipped with LED diodes in a circuit intended for power supply by a rated current source of 1 ADC (the range of the required voltage of the power supply for the panel power supply is 36 ÷ 42 V). We will not use a 230 VAC power supply with this output, which is a standard part of the luminaire package, and we will connect the panel directly to the C-DM-0006M-ILED dimmer outputs  (hereinafter in the text C-DM).

The C-DM module is equipped with outputs with a maximum current of 700 mA, but the outputs LED1 and LED3 (analogous to LED2 and LED4) can be connected in parallel and with their configuration of 500 mA we obtain a total current of 1 A and with power supply of the C-DM module from 48 VDC we have the right power and parameters for controlling 2 LED panels with one C-DM module. In the application SW, we must control both coupled channels in the same way (same setpoint).

The second possibility of dimming a similar luminaire, as the LED panel used in the example, is to use controlled sources that are controlled by the analog output of the system, see the example in this article.

Fig. 2  Example of LED panel control with rated current 1 A by module C-DM-0006M-ILED

Notes:

  1. The HLP 59545 LED panel is connected directly to the outputs of the C-DM-0006M-ILED (module (the source that is part of the LED panel delivery will not be used!).

  2. The outputs of the C-DM-0006M-ILED module can be connected in parallel only: output 1 with output 3, output 2 with output 4. This gives a dimmable common output with a maximum current of 1.4 A (configuration of 700 mA module outputs) or 1 A ( outputs set to 500 mA)

  3. The DRP-480-48 switching power supply provides 48 VDC at its output with a maximum current of 10 A - ie it is possible to supply twice the assembly in this configuration without any problems than shown in the example.

  4. The DRP-480-48 power supply must be switched (its 230 VAC power supply) by a relay contact intended for capacitive loads (max. Current during the so-called cold start of the power supply is 40 A).

  5. It is necessary to ensure sufficient ventilation of the source, when the ambient temperature is exceeded, the maximum usable power of the source decreases - see the graph in the figure Chapter 1 (applies to the standard position of mounting on a DIN rail).

  6. Powering multiple C-DM-0006M-ILED modules from one source (see Fig. 2) is possible, but it is necessary that the modules are together and the connection of the ULED and CIB bus supply of the modules to each other must be as short as possible.
